At Root Baking Company, we believe in simplicity. We operate with the belief that crafting quality breads and pastries requires time, attention to detail, and a community of growers, millers, chefs, and fellow artisans.
Working with these guidelines, we strive to produce excellent bread and simple, high quality pastries, using the diverse and unique flavors of the South as our inspiration. We seek to support Southern grains by working closely with our community partners, and look to promote sustainable systems by maintaining practices that minimize our bakery's impact on the environment.
Chris and Nicole Wilkins founded Root Baking Co. in 2015. After baking in Vermont and Georgia, the couple fell in love with Charleston, and decided that the city's commitment to quality, locality, and sustainability made it the perfect place for their small bakery.
